LARRC on the Dawn
Seventeen anglers boarded the Pacific Dawn out of Ventura
Sportfishing on Friday night, December 4th.
Fernando gave us the safety speech and told us Captain Dustin would be
taking us to either Santa Rosa or San Miguel Island to fish rockfish.
When we got up the next morning, Richie was making
breakfast and the sun was just coming up.
We were at San Miguel Island and Dustin was looking for a deep spot for us to
fish because the swell was too high to fish shallow water spots. Surprisingly, once the sun was up, it was
t-shirt weather.
The drift was slow so we were able to get several drops
before moving the boat. Fernando
practiced the first few drops and set us right over big reds. As the day progressed, it became a two
species trip - you either hooked a ling cod or a red and both were biting well.
Here are a few photos of the day:
At the end of the day, we had full limits of reds and
ling cod. Tom won the JP with a big ling
cod. Crew filleted our fish while we
napped during the trip back. We were
back at dock at 7 pm and on our way home by 7:30 pm with ice chests full of fresh fish filets.
