Not Fishing But---

I have been involved in fishing related activities.

UASC – I was voted back on the Board of Directors for United Anglers of Southern California (UASC). UASC is deeply involved in representing recreational anglers in the MLPA process. I have much catching up to do in order to understand the intricacies of the MLPA process.

UASC’s Mission Statement is: “United Anglers of Southern California is a volunteer driven, non-profit organization dedicated to the enhancement of fishery resources through management, conservation and education in order to maximize angling opportunities and pass the sport of fishing on to future generations.” http://www.unitedanglers.com/news.php

IGFA Observer Program – I attended the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) Observer Training Program at the Balboa Bay Club last Saturday. The training class was sponsored by UASC and attendees were certified to observe fishing aboard private vessels competing in fishing tournaments. Observer responsibilities are species identification, witness catches and to verify that the tackle and fishing activities meet IGFA and tournament rules. http://www.igfa.org/co.asp

Fishing Games – Jason and Hillary came over for dinner and showed me their Flick Fishing Game on the iPod Touch. Darn them! It’s not available on the Blackberry Storm so I had to settle for the ESPN Bassmasters game. http://store.handmark.com/p/108492/ESPN-Bassmasters-for-BlackBerry/- I prefer Flick Fishing because it’s Saltwater Fishing and you actually cast with your phone. I contacted the developers of Flick asking them to create it for the Storm. I can hope.

LARRC Awards Brunch – Last Sunday I attended the Los Angeles Rod & Reel Club (LARRC) annual Awards Brunch at the Braemar Country Club. Highlights include awards and photos of the junior members, the delicious brunch (with loads of seafood, made to order omelets, desserts, etc.), a silent auction with tackle and fishing trips, and a live auction. http://www.larrc.org/

Quilting – When it’s too cold to fish, I make quilts. I just started taking quilting classes so one of my first quilts was a fish quilt that I use down in the library when it’s cold. I needed a baby gift so I also made a baby quilt. The baby’s sex is unknown so yellow with ladybugs was the next quilt. Now I’m working on a blue flannel quilt for Mike to use downstairs when it’s cold. I’m off to another class today to learn how to use the Fabric Mover for quilting.

Fred Hall Long Beach Show – Preparations for this year’s show have been in process for a while. No one knows for sure how the economy will affect the show but I’m sure it will be different. Pete Haynes and the Shimano’s Knotty Ladies will no longer be sponsored by Shimano as Pete Haynes no longer reps for Shimano. Arrangements have been made for the knot tying seminars to be given in the main arena twice each day. http://www.fredhall.com/ I will spend some time in the Braid Booth again this year as I love to visit with passengers from charters I’ve handled for Braid Products. Dennis has reduced the size of the booth by 20 feet and will only display a small amount of new product. Dennis plans to use a new booth this year - the Booth he used at the ICAST Show in Las Vegas last July.

Disneyland – Disney is offering Southern California Residents a 2Fer – two parks, one day each within 30 days for the price of one park. The grandkids have annual passes so I just had to take advantage of 2Fer and go with them. Noah talked me into the roller coaster and all the other wild rides inside California Adventure. It was my first visit to this park and I am sure I have never screamed so loudly before. What a great day. Thank heaven for that glass of wine with lunch to settle the stomach. We have Disneyland Park next month after the tackle show.

Linda's Photos from our Cabo Experience

Linda sent me a disk of her photos from our Cabo Experience. She took so many great photos with equipment much better than mine that I feel compelled to share them. They really show the visual excitement of marlin fishing. Enjoy!

Linda and me at dinner after a day of fishing.

Look closely and you will see the marlin spit up his stomach (red) and the birds are diving to pick at it.

Celebrating after our "40 marlin caught and released" day!
